About Universal Dental Center
I was raised in the small town of Esteli in the northern mountains of Nicaragua. As a child in a time of war, what happened in my country never seemed out of the ordinary; I just accepted that strife was part of life. Fortunately, for my siblings and me, my parents foresaw the extent of Nicaragua’s deterioration. Towards the latter part of the revolution, myself, my father and my older brother escaped and soon thereafter the treacherous journey was undertaken by my mother and younger siblings. Crossing the Rio Grande which borders Mexico and the U.S.A in the middle of the night was a dangerous and courageous experience for them. Nevertheless, within weeks, we were all reunited as a family.
In late 1990, we headed to Canada as part of a Refugee Amnesty program. After landing at the Toronto airport, we were settled into the Red Door Shelter, a place of transition and new beginnings for immigrant families. Within weeks, we were living in the Kitchener – Waterloo area and a new chapter had begun for my family and me.
When I’m home I love to spend time with my 2 beautiful daughters Sofia and Victoria, my wonderful girlfriend Maria and our 2 big dogs Atlas and Harley. I enjoy being a chef at home and barbecuing all year around.
Early in my career I was a dental assistant; later I became a Dental Hygienist and in 2014 I graduated with honours from the Restorative Dentistry program at George Brown College. My 25 years in the dental profession have helped me develop a deep sense of understanding, responsibility and empathy for all my clients. I believe in a holistic, integrated approach to healthcare. My primary focus has always been to build and maintain long-lasting relationships with my clients. My years in dental practice have included clients with special needs, seniors, and families from every sector of our society. I have always ensured a high level of integrity, privacy and professionalism when it comes to delivering care, all the while maintaining to the utmost the use of procedures and protocols set forth by my governing body and their high standards of practice. I have dedicated my last 25 years to helping clients not only by tending to their oral care, but also by modelling how having a healthy mouth can affect the rest of their bodies.
